How to get your favorite game to work with the UltraSound Plug & Play
=====================================================================
This document will guide you through the steps to get the games which do not
directly support the UltraSound Plug & Play going......
First Step (s) to prepare you for the ultimate gaming experience
----------------------------------------------------------------
We recommend that you follow these instructions to properly setup your
system for getting sound from games.
1) Run PREPGAME from the game directory. (refer to README file on the
floppy disks for in-depth details).
2) Determine which model of Ultrasound Plug & Play you have and follow
details according to information below.
3) If you are using an UltraSound Plug & Play Pro or an UltraSound
Plug & Play with RAM then choose "UltraSound" in your game setup.
4) If "UltraSound" is not an option choose "Sound Blaster". Make
sure you run IWSBOS before running your game.
5) If you are having difficulty with IWSBOS then you can use
MEGAEM. With either IWSBOS or MEGAEM you can configure your
game for either "Sound Blaster" and/or "General MIDI"
Ultrasound Plug & Play (Base Model)
-----------------------------------
This version of the UltraSound Plug & Play ships with a 1MB ROM set
and no RAM.
In order to play DOS games you will need to run either IWSBOS or MEGAEM
to put the UltraSound Plug & Play into "Sound Blaster" or "General MIDI"
emulation mode.
We recommend that you configure your game to use General Midi for music and
Sound Blaster for digital. If you, for some reason, don't get music working,
then you can configure that game to use Sound Blaster for Music. To run this
program, just type IWSBOS or MEGAEM at the DOS prompt. Then configure your
game as described above and run the game.
If you wish to gain native UltraSound compatiblity you will need to add some
RAM - in this case the smallest amout of RAM you can add is 1MB. This will
give you greater compatiblity options.
Ultrasound Plug & Play (PRO Version)
-----------------------------------
This version of the card comes with 512K RAM built-in. Like the base model
it also has the same 1MB ROM.
In order to get sound from games, you now have 2 choices of Emulators to use
and one hardware compatiblity to aid you. The emulator options are the same
as those listed above.
The greatest advantage to the PRO version is that it is 100% hardware
compatible with the existing Gravis UltraSound (not MAX). This also means that
you do not need to run the emulators except for games that don't support
Ultrasound directly. Just select Ultrasound from the games sound card list
and enjoy the awesome sounds when you play your games.
Note: Unless your card has RAM installed and RAM support installed from the
CD-ROM, you will hear no sound if you set up your sound card as an UltraSound.
